Just a few weeks before the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships Stuttgart 2019 (4 – 13 October), the winning medals have seen the light of day. The organizing Swabian Gymnastics Federation attached great importance to bringing in the know-how of the region. The project medals “Made in Baden-Württemberg” therefore attracted a lot of celebrities at its premiere. In addition to Minister President Winfried Kretschmann, STB President Wolfgang Drexler, Olympic Champion Fabian Hambüchen and german national team gymnast Elisabeth Seitz, many high-ranking representatives came to Weinstadt near Stuttgart, where the medals were created and produced.
“Just as every great achievement and every victory is something special, so should the medals be awarded to the victorious athletes. The medals express the momentum and movement of gymnastics very clearly and as a joint product of medium-sized, innovative and successful companies they carry a lot of Baden-Württemberg‘s know-how. The company Bernd Kussmaul, the State Mints of Baden-Wuerttemberg and the ribbon weaving mill Bauer, which provided the medals with a sustainable ribbon, stand together with the other participating companies exemplarily for the efficiency of our state. I hope that our gymnasts will be able to take these wonderful medals home with them and look forward to the competitions in Stuttgart”
Wolfgang Drexler, President of the Swabian Gymnastics Federation, which organizes the Gymnastics World Championships together with the German Gymnastics Federation, said: “From the very beginning, we have declared our goal of organizing one of the best Artistic Gymnastics World Championships of all time. The gymnasts will be at the center of attention. Many members of the Gymnastics Team Germany prepare in our training base. It quickly became clear to us that we also wanted to honor this achievement at the award ceremony. From my point of view, this is the best medal that has ever been won at a Artistic Gymnastics World Championship, and in addition with know-how from the state of Baden-Württemberg. What can be a greater incentive for our gymnasts to secure such a medal at home?”
Bernd Kussmaul, who was responsible for the production of the medal with his factory in Weinstadt, was pleased with the many words of praise: “The development process of the medals has a lot in common with the long and intensive preparation of the gymnasts. We are united by discipline, effort, passion and emotion. In production we have mastered many technical challenges. For example, embossing in the air. This has never happened before. But now we have achieved a real wow effect: The medal lives and is dynamic. It has a different appearance from every angle. This is also something very special for us and I can say: the medal fever has broken out in us for a long time”.
Elisabeth Seitz was impressed: “I was involved in the development process myself and have already won some medals in my career. What the people involved have created here is truly extraordinary. This shows how much heart and soul goes into the Worlds in Stuttgart. This also goes down well with us gymnasts and gives us tailwind for the preparation.”
Olympic high bar champion Fabian Hambüchen celebrated a premiere thanks to the 2019 medals: “I’ve already experienced virtually everything there is to experience in gymnastics. But the fact that I was able to personally shape a Worlds medal this morning is also new for me. That was also an absolutely emotional experience for me, which again confirmed me: A medal is always much more than a piece of metal. You work so long, so hard for it. And the medal in Stuttgart does 100 percent justice to this commitment”.

On Wednesday, 26 June there will be exactly 100 days until the start of the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships Stuttgart 2019, and additional ticket quotas will be activated at 2 pm on this day.
Within one month after the start of sales, 25,000 tickets for the artistic gymnastics highlight in Stuttgart have already been sold. On five days of the event, no tickets were available after a short time. Once the field of play had been finally approved, the existing waiting lists could be processed so that additional tickets for all events of the World Gymnastics Championships could be sold during the 100-day countdown.
“We are very happy that we were able to serve all interested parties on the waiting lists with tickets and that we are now able to offer further, even if only very limited, contingents for free sale. Due to the high demand, we expect to have a full house in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle on all days. “
So if you want to experience the nearly 600 world class gymnasts from 94 nations live in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle, you should make a quick decision. The draw for the starting order in the qualification (4 to 7 October) will take place on 16 July in the Stuttgart City Hall. The complete list of participants will be published after 4 September after the registration deadline by name has expired.
100 days before the worlds, the German gymnastics team will also start the countdown to the annual highlight. A record 92 nations have registered to participate in the 49th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Stuttgart (GER), which is preparing to play host to the competition for the third time after memorable events in 1989 and 2007.
The provisional entries for the 2019 World Championships, scheduled for 4-13 October at the 7,500-seat Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle, has hit a new high, surpassing the previous record of 86 federations at the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow (GBR). The number of entries for 2019 is eight more than took part in Stuttgart 2007 and nearly double the 48 that participated in Stuttgart 1989.
In addition to awarding eight sets of medals in the Men’s competition and six sets in the Women’s competition, the 2019 World Championships will serve as a qualifying event to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo (JPN). All federations may enter individuals, but only the top 24 teams from the 2018 World Championships in Doha (QAT) in both the men’s and women’s competitions may enter full teams, with the addition of a men’s team from either Australia or New Zealand to ensure full continental representation. The age limit is 18 years (born 2001) or older for men and 16 years (born 2003) or older for women.
The full roster of gymnasts scheduled to compete at the competition will be released following the nominative registration deadline of 4 September.
Olympic champions Fabian Hamuechen (GER) and Catalina Ponor (ROU), who both competed in Stuttgart 2007, will return this fall as the Gymnastics Ambassadors for the World Championships. Hambuechen retired from competition after achieving his ultimate goal of winning gold on Horizontal Bar at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (BRA), while Ponor bid competition adieu in 2017 after three Olympic appearances, with five Olympic and five World Championship medals to her name.
This year’s event also marks the fifth time overall that Germany has played host to the competition, including the World Championships in Dortmund in 1966 and 1994.
At the Gymnastics World Championships Stuttgart 2019 from 4 to 13 October, the world’s best gymnasts will fight for the qualification for the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 on a total of ten event days in addition to the World Championships titles. A sporting highlight that attracts numerous spectators to the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle and ensures nationwide media coverage.
We are very pleased that the World Championships are bringing such great media interest for gymnastics in our country and are also giving us more broadcasting time on public television. We would like to use this special opportunity to sustainably present the fascination of gymnastics through the associated public perception.

*The indicated times refer to the opening of the hall, the start of the competition is usually 1.5 hours after the opening of the hall. All times given are subject to modification due to external factors.
Ticketing updates
According to the current status, there are no more tickets available for four of the ten days of the event. Unfortunately we have to expect that due to the long waiting lists for the two apparatus finals (12. & 13. October) as well as the team & all-around finals of the women (8. & 10. October) no additional contingents can be activated. But we will only make a final statement after we have considered all options for a ticket increase. We are working flat out to complete the process as soon as possible and will continue to keep you up to date on our channels. Our tip: secure tickets for the events that are still available.

The International Gymnastics Federation is delighted to announce the names of its five Gymnastics Ambassadors for the World Championships which will take place in 2019.
Fabian Hambüchen
It was in Stuttgart in 2007 that he had his finest hour at World Championships with a silver medal in the All-Around, a Team bronze and, above all, a gold on the Horizontal Bar. Billed as the wunderkind of German gymnastics from a very early age, he collected a total of nine World Championship medals and two Olympic medals – the bronze in Beijing in 2008, and the silver in London in 2012, both on the Horizontal Bar – before finally achieving his ultimate goal of Olympic gold at his fourth and final Games in Rio in 2016.
Catalina Ponor
Her elegant style and longevity at the summit make her a 21st century icon of Romanian Gymnastics. At her first World Championships in 2003 in Anaheim, she picked up three silver medals – in the Balance Beam, Floor and Team competitions. The following year, silver became gold at the European Championships and, above all, in Athens where she collected a trio of Olympic crowns, in the same three finals. Several times she stepped away from her sport only to return, driven by the adrenaline rush of competition, to charm judges and public alike – as it was the case at the 2012 London Olympics where she won a Team bronze with Romania and the silver medal on Floor.
Within one month of the start of sales, 25,000 tickets for the gymnastics highlight in Stuttgart had already been sold. On five days of the event, no tickets were available after a short time.
Completion of process by mid-April
At the end of February 2019 the layout of the Field of Play of the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships Stuttgart 2019 was finally proofed by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). In the next step, the existing waiting lists can be processed. Due to the many enquiries, this process is expected to be completed by mid-April. After that we will inform you again, should we be able to put more tickets on sale.

Four-time world All-around champion Simone Biles (USA) heads the mouthwatering list of gymnasts who have confirmed their participation at the FIG Individual All-around World Cup in Stuttgart (GER) on 16-17 March.
The Stuttgart event will be the second in this year’s World Cup series and Biles will be joined by other big names like Russia’s Aliia Mustafina and David Belyavskiy as well as the 2018 World Cup series winners Elisabeth Seitz (GER) and Sun Wei (CHN).
Women´s Competition
It will be the first time for Biles to compete at the Stuttgart World Cup and the 21-year-old – holder of four Olympic gold medals and 14 World Championship golds – will take top billing at the Porsche Arena where she will get a taste of the conditions before the city hosts the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in October.
Competing alongside Biles will be the experienced Mustafina (RUS), twice an Olympic gold medallist on Uneven Bars and the 2010 All-around world champion, and local favourite Seitz (GER), whose silver medal in her adopted home city of Stuttgart 12 months ago preceded a memorable World Championships in Doha where she won her first medal with bronze on Uneven Bars. The women’s field also features Anne-Marie Padurariu (CAN), who is making her World Cup debut following her silver-medal success on Balance Beam in Doha.

The Stuttgart World Cup is the second of four events in the 2019 FIG series, and follows the American Cup on 2 March. The series will continue on 23 March in Birmingham (GBR), and conclude in Tokyo (JPN) on 7 April. The top eight teams from the 2018 World Championships received priority invitations to the event.
The field for each event involves eight male and eight female gymnasts chosen by the participating federations, plus one optional ‘wildcard’ gymnast each from the host federation. Gymnasts collect points for the 2019 World Ranking lists that will determine the winning federations, and the results of all four events count towards the final ranking.
Prize money of a total of CHF116,000–124,000 is at stake in each leg of the series, with the FIG paying an additional CHF100,000 to the overall top three-ranked gymnasts – male and female – at the end of the series.
