2nd Day of Men’s Qualification: Reigning World Champion China and an inexperienced team Japan
October 8th marks the start of the qualifying competition for seven other teams, including the top nations China and Japan. While China put together a strong team with many gymnasts from its gold medal team from last year’s World Championships in Doha, Japan has suffered heavy losses. Not only the “King of the Floor” Kenzõ Shirai, but also Japan’s most experienced gymnast Kõhei Uchimura are forced to forgo a World Championships appearance due to injuries. Instead, Japan has nominated many newcomers to its team. It remains exciting how this young, inexperienced team will perform in Stuttgart.
On the same day, the team from the USA will start its competition.
The qualifying rounds are not only about entering the finals but also about the qualification for the Olympic Games. Only the best twelve teams of the 2019 World Gymnastics Championships will make it to Tokyo 2020.
Placings of the qualifying competitions:
- Top 12 teams qualify for the Olympic Games
- Top 8 teams qualify for the Team Final
- Top 24 gymnasts on all apparatus qualify for the all-around finals
- Top 8 gymnasts per apparatus qualify for the apparatus finals on floor, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar.
